Dear friends, I started some new medications about two weeks ago, and reduced or eliminate some others.
I am 84 years of age, and need to slow down and pay attention to every, single thing I do, so I don't drop something or knock something over. My talking has become weird....I talk in bursts, each burst extremely fast and speedy. I also sing with my guitar, and play the mandolin. When I sing, my verse singing is also way too speedy, and I can't slow it down. When I play the mandolin, I play the tunes so fast I mess up. Does anyone else have the problem of speediness? Advice? I am now going to check online and see what I can find out about psychomeds and speediness. I'll let you know what I find out.

I looked on google for "which psychoactive drugs cause extreme speedy speech." None listed.

I agree with Crazy Hitch and June08 it sounds like mania @WantToShare My Dr. had to put me on a mood stabilizer after he prescribed my antidepressant to slow me down. You might want to give your prescriber or the pharmacist a call.

First of all, dont you almost HAVE to play the mandolin fast? Or do they just sound that way? (My dad played a little).
I ALWAYS spoke in a rush. Took me a long time to accept the reason behind it - family didnt want to listen to me. I assumed the whole world wanted me to hurry and get out of the way, get my turn over with. So i did a variation on the twilight zone solution and just stopped talking - medication helped. I havent gone manic in a while, except maybe on these pages, and when the neighbors wake me up at 3 am!!!!!, so i dont know if the speed-talking trait is gone or just in remission. |
