I had post partum psychosis after N3 was born and nobody diagnosed me! They said I had post partum depression. I’ll spare you the details. The above podcast is sobering.

Yeah. I had horrific “visions” about my kids that scared me! And they’d just play out in front of my eyes all by themselves! Yet nobody diagnosed me! I called my Pdoc and she just said I was having PPD. Take Zoloft! That made it worse!

Postpartum depression is a terrible thing to happen! I am so sorry that you have or are experiencing that
When I was pregnant in nineteen sixty four, i did natural childbirth exercises. I think I was ahead of my time, and I had a very happy pregnancy. I had natural childbirth. Everything went very smoothly. I came out of the delivery room happy. Then I suddenly plunged into terrible depression. I cried uncontrollably for a week. I was twenty two years old at the time. I had experienced depression since I was three years old I had no diagnosis of bipolar disorder, which is probably a good thing. Because treatment for bipolar in those days was probably either incompetent or brutal. I don't know which or both. I got diagnosed at the age of fifty five or fifty six. I hope you recover soon!

I was psychotic while pregnant and then after it got worse. We were too ashamed to tell anyone because we we're going to be "such good parents". Thing is I hide my psychosis well my husband didn't leave me alone with my child until she was 13. Though I was much more likely to hurt myself he wasn't taking chances.

Dear Vistoria's Mom and others,
I'm so sorry to hear that you "hide" your psychosis well. My family has always hidden our various dysfunctions well, too,. My daughter was born when I was not married, in 1964. This was so EXTLREMELY shameful at the time, that people would lose their jobs or their entire work future. A postasl worker at that time was fired, merely b/c she spent the night in a hotel with her boyfriend. I knew that if I had kept my daughter, I would never, ever, be able to save my teaching license for publick schoiols. Abortiosns were ilegal, and I knew I was incapable of raising her well. My position is: I don't thinik that people with mental illness should have children. I know stories of people whose parent was hospitalized for months, and the child thought they'd been abandoned. My cousin had schizphrnenia and abandoned her two teenage sons.
