I saw my therapist today. Told him I turned in my application to volunteer at the library, this morning. He STILL harped on me even after I told him my rent would go up!!!! So I emailed my section 8 person and told her this and asked just much would my rent go up. But I remember when the kids were living with me and N2 and N3 got jobs our rent portion went sky high!

You usually pay 1/3 your total income for most housing programs.

My section 8 worker said this:

It will depend on how much you earn. Basically for every $100 you earn, it will increase your rent by $30.

If he’s insisting on badgering me, I might have to fire him. Won’t be a comfortable conversation but with him dismissing my applying for a volunteer job - which is HuGE for me!- I can’t stand his harping and badgering !

Yeah I’d be pissed too. Volunteering is literally a job without a monetary reward that you won’t get penalized for doing… and can lead to job opportunities.

Every job I’ve had for say the last 5 of them I’ve been fired! Or just not put on. The schedule which is the coward’s way of firing. Then there’s hospitalization for 2 weeks once a year or daily psychosis…..

I don’t want a paying job because my rent would go up and my SSI would go down. T says I’d have “extra money” but I don’t think so.

My husband had a part time job. Our rent is 40% of our income it went to $600, I lost$300 from SSI, we lost EBT and he had a copay for his Dr appointments. It was so stressful especially because he kept having to miss working. We would have been kicked off sec 8 if it was above 60% of AMI. So we totaled all the benefits we receive up that we would loose and came up with a number. He has to make over that number to accept a job until then he can work for Americorps which gives a living stipend (around minimum wage)that doesn't effect any assistance.

So the current plan is to get to 640 credit score and buy a home on affordable housing with section 8. While he gets his master's in business then hopefully uses a program to train first Year teachers putting him at the masters+30 level for first year teachers. Only after he gets his master's+30 will he make enough starting to really give it all up.

Oh we did have more control over our money so we spent if on other things than food. We learned that food is a low priority and the first to get cut.
