Do you have any hobbies? Are they helpful?
I want to pick up an old hobby but can't get motivated. Music has always been my go-to resource for enjoyment but I can't play guitar anymore. I'd like to make some model airplanes for quite some time. That's what I liked when I was young. Hobbies help pass the time and takes your mind off of worries.

Learning languages is quite "easy" in that there are so many ways to do it, but also obviously "difficult" and challenging, but that's not all bad of course.
It can be satisfying when your previous learning experience helps you a lot with learning another language or dialect etc., much like music I imagine. A downside might be feeling like an idiot when you try to use the language etc., but that can be a good experience ultimately too. |

I find my interests and hobbies are a tremendous boost for my mental health. I have two interests in particular that I find I can focus on and they will take my mind away from my general anxieties. For me, these things are a form of mindfulness, in that usually I can get engaged with them quickly and easily, and my mind will focus on them to the point where I can temporarily push all other worries and concerns away.
I suffer quite badly from health anxiety, and without my interests and hobbies I would be (and can become) all consumed by these anxieties. The trick is to find the thing that really interests you that you can also engage with quickly and easily, whether that’s picking up a book, playing a musical instrument or sitting down and doing some art work. |

Hobbies do help me. Calming my mind and distract me from stupid thoughts.
One thing in my mind, it should be enjoyable. If it not enjoyable or no motivation anymore, it’s okay to not doing it and find a new enjoyable hobby. A hobby shouldn’t be pressuring. |

Hobbies definitely help me.. I knit and play the harp.
When I first stopped drinking, I knitted almost constantly since it distracted me and I couldn't knit well and drink at the same time. It was a major coping mechanism for me. |

Having hobbies is important. I think
I’d say the best ones are where you actively create something or do something. Doesn’t need to be fancy. Could be making cookies or swimming. I’d say passive hobbies like watching and listening is just not the same thing. Or going somewhere where you don’t make anything like going to bars, I don’t think its a hobby lol Making models sounds fun and challenging! Maybe try one and post a picture? I personally draw and paint but I’ll be honest I do much less of it now. I scrapbook. Quite a bit. I used to do Zumba but it became inconvenient. I now go to yoga and tai chi studio. I am NOT good. At all. But it’s fun. |

I picked up billiards after an early retirement. I began playing in an APA League. I got to meet a lot of people. Most of the competition was friendly. I think I first played at
the boys club when I was 8 years old. Even back then, I had a good eye for cutting the ball into the pocket. But there is so much more to billiards than making difficult shots. The best players have very few difficult shots to make. By understanding the physics of collisions, you can begin to predict and control the path of the cue ball after you pocket a ball, making the next ball easily pocket-able but also allowing for proper cue ball position after you have pocketed the 2nd ball. In effect, you are always planning 3 balls ahead. I began to regularly run racks of 8 and 9 ball. My team won the local APA championship and we all went free to Las Vegas for a week. I put a 9' professional pool table in my basement and practiced regularly. I played in local tournaments and traveled to play Moose Lodge tournaments. I'm not a hustler. I didn't disguise my skill to prey on others. I don't need the money. I did finish in the money in the largest amateur pool tournament held annually in the US. I beat some guy who traveled all the way from Japan. I guess he was a big fish in a little pond. I got to watch and meet some of the top players in the world. I wouldn't want to play pool for a living. There are a lot of low lifes who hang around the game. But for a couple of years, it was like a part time job. When Covid hit, I put the stick down. I haven't picked it back up. I am enjoying my free time. My day consists of working out at PF, working part time, reading and relaxing and planning my next Canadian vacation. |

Nope. There is not a single hobby that interests me. I have tried them all. I do like latch hook rug making but I tend to lose patience in the middle of a rug.

My biggest hobby is my farm & also helping a friend with her farm. Hard work has always been my go to. Clearing brush & it looks so good afterward. Hard work & reward of looking good is a win/win for me. When I am frustrated with something, seriously cleaning stalls & bucket therapy in the barn just listening to the horses munch on hay relaxes me even with the work. Playing frisbee with my dog & hiking & exploring together in my woods is my escape also.
I enjoyed painting & drawing but have sorta been on an uninspired period with that lately.
