They are sawing something and throwing a bunch of stuff into a dumpster. I thought there was a noise ordinance. That you couldn’t make noise outside until 8 on a Sunday.

This is why some people go off on their neighbors. One of my old neighbors would have called the cops on them.

My old town’s law was 7am but it wasn’t enforced unless you were like traumatizing people at 2am. My city no one gives a shyt and in my building no one really bothers with the quiet hours re: TVs and screaming on the phone or getting drunk with the neighbors but no one really runs a vacuum that late

I think it more depends on your neighborhood’s current vibes rather than actual written law in practice.

Sorry you're dealing with that.

We lived in half of a duplex and this guy and his wife, partner in crime, I'm not sure exactly who, moved in. Seriously the guy looked like he just got out of prison. Anyways, he would run an electrical saw for 8-9 hours a day and drill into the shared wall constantly. I only saw two tables he built once because he hung them over the shared wall. I'm not sure what the rest of constant sawing was all about. We nicknamed him Sawman. He also threatened us over a parking space, so we didn't feel safe going over there to say anything. Municipal security was worthless about that sort of thing, so we just endured it. It was one of the main reasons for us moving.

Maybe he really was recently released from prison. My husband worked in the prison system when he did his legal internship and said he gave off those vibes. Also, the wife or whoever she was came first and rented the place. He showed up several months later. Maybe she didn't want the landlord to know he was going to live there or ask for a background check. We saw him dressed up in a suit a few times with a guy who may have been his lawyer. Also, according to my husband, carpentry is one of the most popular vocational programs in the prison system.

Recently, they've been running an add for power tools that features a guy that goes everywhere with his electric saw. I can't help but be reminded of Sawman every time I see it.

I’m sound sensitive and have all kinds of coping mechanisms I use, such as earplugs, music, and headphones. I’m born this way but people tell me to “just ignore it”. I’d like to tell them that after blasting a foghorn in their ear.

Personally I think we need a noise police but nobody thinks it’s important, even though people have shot their neighbors for being noisy and not cooperating when politely asked to PIPE DOWN. It’s a quality of life thing.

I live in a $hit building that’s an echo chamber because of how it’s designed. And now that they use hard floors instead of carpet, you can really hear everyone’s noise. Builders won’t make them soundproof because it would be costly and they don’t have to live with it. And I honestly think they do that to induce high turnover. Then they can raise the rent on the new people.

Right now there’s construction of more apartments going up literally next door to me. They start at 7am and even work Saturdays. And they are so eager to fill a vacancy in my building they work 7 days a week, even on holidays, remodeling the apartment over and over. So we get noise all day, every day.

Most days I can’t wait to put on earplugs and go to bed, even though I can still hear some noise.

People suck.

They were barely here on Monday or Tuesday. Today they have been loud. I’m just going to have to deal with it for another month or 2.
