So after 14 years - can you believe that -- I finally went on a travel trip. The night before I was losing my mind with anxiety but.. I made myself go. And I am glad I did.

First, this is the first trip I ever rented a car. I was really worried about it plus worried about driving by myself in an unfamiliar area. Fortunately, it wasn't a problem. Though at every turn on this trip there was something I had to think on my feet about.. I was able to do that. The airport was just lovely. Small enough that you could drive around it without a problem. Getting to the hotel was super easy. I had no problem finding any of the places I was visiting even if when I got there -there was detour.

I worried about physical issues. I am on a GLP1 and I worried without enough water I might have constipation but all was fine. And even though per my fit bit I did 10 times the exercise I do at work... I didn't hurt as much as I do when I go to work? I was really shocked. My guess is that work has stairs and this didn't. I had no trouble getting the carry on down from the over head bin and no issues walking at the airport. I worried a bit about not being able to fit into the airplane seats but it was not a problem. In fact on the way there I had no one in my row. On the way back I got to see NYC and the area I live from the plane. It was great.

I spent way more money than I wanted to but I do now think it was worth it. The experience of challenging myself on a mental and physical plane was well worth it and fills me with confidence. I once read a book that said if you aren't always pushing against your comfort zone it will contract. That is absolutely what happened here in the past 14 years.

I will probably need to go back but I was pleasantly surprised with North Carolina it reminded me a lot of Lansing Michigan (where I lived before and enjoyed) and everyone was quite nice and helpful. I had worried I might find it too "southern" but honestly I found no one with a southern accent. Hardly noticed I was in the "south".

i have decided I have become too comfortable in my house after Covid. I need to get out more on a regular basis. I am going to join the gym and every weekend I going to do something. I need to push that comfort zone out.

I'm really glad you had a good trip. And I think the idea of pushing yourself to do more regularly is a really good idea, our world can really contract if we don't get outside our comfort zone.

@NatalieJastrow Look at that!! You took your trip and lived to tell about it AND enjoyed yourself!!!! I'm so proud of you!!!! I will admit that my biggest fear revolves around those unexpected detours you mentioned. They really take the joy out of going anywhere. Welcome back safe and sound. We'll be needing some pictures when you get the chance.

I did the rice diet at Duke in the 1980's? Beautiful part of the country. One time i was at a 5-way intersection and there was a small white pickup truck first in every direction, including me! But EVERYBODY and their 12-year-old nephew smoked! I was shocked to see children openly smoking cigarettes at the mall. Or maybe they were adults and the smoke stunted their growth? IDK!

Well wasn't that where the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company was? I seem to remember in the 90s all this talk about elected officials from North Carolina being in their (tobacco lobby) pocket.

One of my best friends still smokes. I hope she is one of the lucky ones but we will see.
