EMS clinician said daughter "passed away"

I'm in the Northeast with a daughter in Texas.

I was waiting for her to tell me when she could take time off from work to visit. I kept waiting. Then her cellphone went offline.

I reached out to her ex-partner who said he had a meltdown when he last saw her, so she was ghosting him. IOW he hadn't heard from her either. He called the landlord who went over to check on her. The landlord called me and handed the phone over to an EMS clinician. He said they "found her in bed passed away."

"Did she have any health issues? Was she taking any meds? Did she drink? Do drugs? The deputy sheriff will call you with questions soon."

The phone rang again; caller ID said it was a "pvt line." Asked the same questions after getting my name and date of birth. (Wait, is this a scam? OMG I hope it's a scam.) Then he explained that their standard protocol is to conduct a homicide investigation in cases of unexpected death. There will be an autopsy.

That was two weeks ago. A toxicology report is pending.

The shell of myself that's left keeps doing most of the same stuff as before. But there's no purpose to it, no reason.
