It’s ridiculous— I need at least nine hours of sleep each night these days. I feel exhausted and sluggish at work each day, and coffee only mildly helps. I have a lot of brain fog too. My thyroid test results came back normal the last time they were checked, although I realize that the traditional thyroid panels that the doctors prescribe do not tell the whole story. I work out 3-4 times a week. My eating needs work though— I typically don’t eat much during the day (and that is partly because if I eat an actual lunch instead of a snack, I crash at work), and then I’m starving when I get home so I practically inhale a bunch of food for dinner. I’m bringing healthy snacks with me for the commute home now in the hopes that that will help. I was going to work out today, but I overslept. I’m just so tired.

I hear you @indigo1015 that sounds like how my working life went until I started taking protein rich foods every 3-4 hours or when I start to fade.

I read how I need the food during the day not when I am home going to sleep pretty soon. The plan worked and I managed short breaks for that healthy food boost.

Maybe ask you Dr. for a sleep study? I just saw at Dr. office yesterday they have a at home one. Its a ring you put on your finger and it monitors your sleep.

Thank you for your response— I do eat protein-rich foods. I can’t necessarily eat them every 3-4 hours because of my work. Sometimes I don’t get a break from the time I clock in til when I clock out. Also, my work hours are 10:30am-7pm, and it takes me about 45 minutes to get home. So I eat around 8pm, and then I’m so tired that I crash shortly after. That is simply how my schedule is.

Have you had iron / hemoglobin checked? Too high and too low can cause fatigue and can be dangerous in the extreme.

Or this could be long COVID (if you had that) or long ___something____. For example, I was diagnosed with Lyme disease, and I laughed it off because I felt fine. Got treatment for Sleep Apnea, which seemed to help. Discontinued statins for a while, which helped. Added Nuvigil (an upper) which helped. Then I was diagnosed with depression, so I got treated for that. But all along, I've been in decline. I wonder if I have Long Lyme, then.

Sometimes it's the med combo you're on. My meds got completely changed with my last hospitalization, and suddenly I had a ton more energy each day. But it's tough when you can't do anything about the med cocktail you take that helps best for your mental health.

I have idiopathic hypersomnia as long Covid. It started immediately after Covid. Another name for it is post-acute Covid. I am taking low dose naltrexone for it, which seems to be helpful. The acronym is LDN. It was prescribed by a post-acute COVID clinic and filled at a compounding pharmacy.

How did you ever get diagnosed with that, TCJ? There's no objective test for it, is there? I'd like to get diagnosed with Long Lyme. Everything I've tried for weakness and fatigue seemed to help a little bit at first, but those remedies only reduced the rate of my decline.

I've heard that naltrexone has anti-inflammatory properties; maybe it's the Miracle Drug of the Second Quarter of the Century.

LDN, when you read about it, has this 'for what ails you" flair.

I was diagnosed without an official test, based on the description of synptoms. And it happened three years after the start of the illness, even though Is referred to the clinic three years ago. Back then, the clinic wouldn't accept patients whose Covid was diagnosed via a home test. Now, the rules have been relaxed. My doctor is a researcher, too.

9 hours isn't bad. I had periods where I slept 12 hours.
And I had ECT in 1992 and think it gave me chronic fatigue and couldn't get out of bed for 2 years.
