So.. I have been having horrible sleep for 6 months or more. I can usually sleep for about 4 hours without interruption but around 3 AM I wake up. Now I can fall back to sleep but.. I wake up about every 30 minutes after that.

I think it is related to menopause but... my doctor (and the group) is OBSESSED with sleep apnea.

Go back in time 10 years.. I got an at home sleep study. It came back with "mild" sleep apnea.. But when I read the report I was just on the cusp of sleep apnea with the score... AND it said that getting up during the night could be inaccurately scored as an apnea. I concluded I didn't have it.

But 10 years on.. I have gained weight... I have borderline BP and LVH. Though I sleep on my side and I don't feel tired during the day... I get another sleep study done.

Results.. mild sleep apnea again. I don't have the report yet but I am guessing it will be yet another situation where getting up to go to the bathroom pushes me into sleep apena.

I am happy and sad. Happy and gratified that my doctor IMHO got shown up because I know she was SURE I had serious sleep apena. Sad that this sleep issue is something my doctor doesn't have a great answer for. Though I don't find myself that tired during the day. My hope is that it is related to a blood pressure drug.

Oh no @NatalieJastrow that sounds like interrupted sleep is happening.

Since you mention going to the bathroom, is it worth trying to stop liquids 4-6 hours before you go to bed at night?
That might mean a l,onger sleep?

I have tried. I think blood pressure medication forces the issue no matter how much I drink. @CANDC. I found a you tube video that said I should put my legs up before bed -- gravity forcing water to my bladder. Sounded good but it didn't work.

What concerns me though is these bouts from around 3 AM to 5 Am where I cannot sleep for more than 30 minutes and never seem to sleep soundly.

Tomorrow I am off to the OBGYN and I am going to ask about HRT.

It sounds like you have tried things @NatalieJastrow and so there may not be a simple answer.

I have a little pedal thingie - not a bike, i set it in front of a chair - and i think it gets my circulation going enough to a) push those fluids up and out and b) tire me out enough to stay asleep, or at least get back to sleep. Mine is called a Wonder Core, but i use it for the foot action. Some other of my online lady friends use similar devices.
