This is a long NYT article behind a paywall about Estonia, which was hit with fentanyl deaths far earlier than the rest of the world, fought the fentanyl crisis successfully, and then was flooded with newer synthetic drugs which are even worse than fentanyl, highly lethal, and so addictive and attractive that addicts choose to use them even knowing the dangers, even after witnessing their own friends and fellow users die.
nytimes.com The article doesn't go into the details about these drugs chemically, doesn't ask whether an antidote against them exists, but otherwise goes deeply into the subject matter and ends on a highly positive, hopeful note.

It’s not too new but we had this stuff called tranq over here that was Xylazine (synthetic, more lethal than fentanyl because there’s no reversing an overdose) mixed with fent. I wonder if they’re similar, at least to the Xylazine part (although I’ve never really heard anybody say they were addicted to Xylazine/tranq specifically I believe it was mainly to intensify the fentanyl. I also kinda feel like they’d die before being really addicted specifically to tranq. I have a lot of conspiracy theories around the crazy shyt going around and the government because I can’t see normal drug dealers wanting to push stuff that kills half the people that use it.)

This was one of the through thread in comments yo this article: people wondered what business sense it makes to sell stuff that kills so fast, decimating the demand.
