Ugh, my almost 3 yr old A⁸ussie is getting neutered this Thursday. He is almost 70 lbs & totally full of energy. Loves to play with the neighbors cows & wrestle with his lab sister Sophie. I had been debating on whether to get him fixed but he was starting to get more aggressive with Sophie so decided I just needed to go with it. Vet said 10-14 days to keep him quiet. Told them they better have some good calmibg meds for him (& me). I asked why so long when horses can have it done & immediately be turned out in the field. Difference.....stitches. hmmmm, maybe with dogs the size of a small horse they need to use the same technique. Anyway I got a surgery suit & a donut for around his neck so he doesn't shred the surgery suit. I laugh because he does well on a leash as long as I have a muzzle on him....so guess we will be taking short walks out back with his muzzle on. I hope they can put his surgery suit on before he wakes up after surgery. Also hope they can help me get my 70 lb monster into my big truck to go home.

He hates riding in my truck in the first place. Only time he got into my truck willingly was after our 3 inches of ice from our ice storm this winter melted. He & his lab sister (who broke her metal long line) took off running around the neighboring farms for 2 hours. Penned up energy. They were happy. I kept my eyes on them the whole time. Finally drove my truck up the neighbors driveway . Almost in the truck but hadn't had enough so headed up to the dairy for a visit. They were so exhausted by then they gladly got in my truck for a ride home.

The next 2 weeks is definitely going to be a challenge. Don't have a crate for him either & 2 flights of stairs between my bedroom & outside. We will see how this challenge goes

Good luck! When Helmut got neutered, he broke his donut. I went to the bathroom for two minutes. He and Brünhilde, our other dog, started playing and the donut died. Fortunately, it was soon before his stitches were to come out anyways. Brünhilde just got the cone of shame for her spay after that incident.

Good luck to both of you Eskie.

Any time one of the dogs had surgery staff at the office put the suit on before bringing them out. With all that Aussie hair he is going to look like the Pillsbury dough boy in his suit.
Thanks for this!

I am taking the surgery suit with him in the morning. Hopefully they can put it on him before he comes to.

Luckily he has a working coat so not as floofy as the show Aussies.

Lol....he hates a leash & he hates my truck so I put his mesh muzzle on him & the leash & he does much better when the muzzle is on. Got him into my truck & we just sat there for 1 1/2 hours tonight till he relaxed & started exploring my truck. He was ok with it by then. Will see how getting him in tomorrow morning works. When he was 1, I missed a vet appointment because he wouldn't get in the truck & was, even then, too heavy for me to lift. The next 10-24 days will be interesting. I just don't see him being quiet or not wrestling with Sophie

Eskie, I know he can't eat this morning because of the surgery, but could you feed him in the truck for awhile so he associates the truck with good things?
