In May she got her checkup and she had lost weight. She seemed OK though. She had been overweight. Over the weekend she would not eat and she barely had any water. She's almost 17 and I am trying to accept the fact that she will probably nit last much longer. I had this happen with my little Buddy 17 years ago. His last year of life was very difficult with his bad thyroid and kidney failure. I'm afraid that's what's happening to my Baby.

I’m so sorry. It’s hard when they age out of our care. May your baby have an easier time than your last one.

Ace sorry to hear that you have a sick "baby" @AceRimmer - that must be rough on you.

zMy cat stopped eating and drinking after disappearing for 10 days. It was sad.

I'm so sorry. It's always tough. 17 is a long life for a cat or dog, so I'm sure you cared well for Baby. I have an 18-year-old cat and I'm amazed she's still around, since she has had various health scares over the year. I'm not sure she will make it to 19. She's becoming senile at this point.

17 and 18 years old. Wow!!! What is the secret to keeping them healthy for so long. Please share. I have a Siamese in her teens but nowhere near 17 or 18. I'm pretty sure she needs hearing aids though because she meows so loud she absolutely has to be deaf. I want to keep her alive as long as possible. Any advice would be welcome?

My Baby has been meowing loudly at night sometimes. I think it's because she does not feel well. I think cats with hyperthyroidism do that. She want to the vet today and they had to sedate her to take blood. They will test her thyroid. She was dehydrated so they gave her some fluids under the skin. They gave her an appetite stimulant so she ate a bit when she got home.

Eating is a good sign. Hopefully her tests will reveal something that can be easily treated. Thanks for the update.

@Ruftin. Honestly, I'm kind of amazed she has lived to this age. She's had various health problems over the years - a bad reaction to her spay stitches, urinary cystitis, a hospitalization for stomach problems and an ear hematoma that needed surgery twice. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. She doesn't go outside, so I think that helps since she isn't exposed to dangers like cat fights, cars and dogs. She gets a good senior food, Bravery Senior and I do give all the pets purified water since our water has lots of sediment. The vet recommended this after one of our dogs had a bladder stone. Other than that she gets her annual vet visits and regular deworming with NexGard Combo.

@rechu the purified water sounds like a good idea. I’ll have to start using that with my little ones. My sister and I looked up our cat’s birthday yesterday and she will actually be 18 this December. I was shocked!!!!! 😳 Time goes by so quickly. She doesn’t seem to have any health issues that we can see other than what’s usual for older animals. We think she might have poor eyesight, hearing and a little dementia but she eats and drinks well and still loves her catnip. Thanks for the advice.
