I once had a wonderful psychiatrist, a woman from India whose teeth looked liked pearls in her warmly smiling mouth, and although she treated me for just a few months, she delivered me from a sheer crisis and I will always remember her. Her name was Dr. Peddu. She then went to work for the VA system, according to the Google searches I ran.

She would tell me to set three goals for a day. More would be overwhelming. Just three goals, and do not add to the list until you have crossed at least one out.

I want to try this as a thread, as a little brother to the much more detailed Measly steps a day thread that has been running for a long time already.

I will begin.. For today:

- visit the pdoc
- walk
- write a plan for the next chapter in my memoir. Not actually write the chapter, but only write the plan.

I saw my pdoc, or rather my t, as I should call him, as today we didn't discuss meds but had talk therapy. He is both for me, two in one.

I walked a lot.

I didn't finish my chapter plan, but I made progress. I used 26 sheets of paper, blank on one side, and one. Each sheet I handwrote one point I will need to make. Tomorrow, I will need to finish writing those points, and I know I am almost done. Then, I will sequence those sheets in the order in which I would want to make those points. Finally, from those sequenced sheets, I will construct a plan.

Today I’m going to aim to:

Have a phone call with my sister
Vaccum through the house
Make dinner

My problem is I often have so many things I need to do they all jostle for my attention and I procrastinate!

- finish planning the next chapter of the memoir by continuing the process I almost finished last night
- make pork loin chops using that recipe I found in Safeway app AND make chia and flax seed pudding with my regular recipe

I was taking it for granted until you said that!

I am halfway thru my first shelfcase (for one item for today).

ETA - Structure (hammering) completed; started forming the included boxes and filling them, made some labels, clothes-pinning them to the boxes (oh! And unboxed my clothespins!). So much organization is happening!!!

2. Finish laundry
3. Unload and load dishwasher
4. Put away winter boots

So far only one is done. Ate too much lol

Edit: I deviated. I ironed instead. Now I am tired. These goal settings are a lot of work lol

I deviated, too. I got carried away replanting succulents and cacti from their tiny pots to a big planter. But it was urgent. The plants had long outgrown those tiny pots.

AI advised me. I placed a screen on the bottom of the planter, over drilled drainage holes. This way water can drain, but soil won't fall through the holes.

I mixed cactus soil with pumice with Perlite 1:1:1.

Then I shook off most of the old soil to separate the roots before the replanting.

Oh, I also use bamboo stakes and Velcro ties in an attempt to guard some of the plants to climb instead of fall.

Finally, I put a layer of red lava rocks on the very top.

The whole thing looks almost professionally done and color-coordinated: a terracotta color plastic planter and lava rocks are about the same color and green bamboo stakes and green Velcro ties match my green Zebra cactus. Other plants are lighter shades of freen.

Now I need to wait until Thursday before the first watering.

This anyer is outside my unit door, under the roof formed by the landing of the upstairs units (mine is on the ground floor). So there is some light here, but never any rain.

I have some remaining gardening projects to do, both near the entrance and on the patio in the back, but I did take care this morning of all the plants that most urgently needed replanting. And I ran out of pumice, so I couldn't continue anyway until I go to ACE hardware and stock up on pumice.

All in all, I feel very accomplished.

I mopped the kitchen floor, thinking of how I would report this checked TO-DO on this thread.

I fried pork loin chops and prepared an interesting salad to go with them. They were good, but next time I will spend less time frying. It was my first time making a recipe from Safeway.

I had guests in the evening until late, so I didn't even touch book chapter planning.

I ran one load of laundry and the dishwasher, so those were extras I hadn't planned this morning.

Clean out my cutlery drawer
Go to visit my parents

I have made chia and flax seed pudding. I make four jars at a time. So I will eat them starting tomorrow and through Friday.

I did three loads of laundry. Folded, hung, put away.

I cannot work on book planning because I am underslept and need a nap, but I have to stay awake, because maintenance workers are scheduled to come this afternoon. When I am underslept, but not awfully so, there are some tasks I can do, such as laundry, and others, more complex tasks, that are out of reach for me, with eyes half closed.

If I manage to take a nap later, I will do book planning and go for a walk. If not, my modest goal will be to accept a large Safeway delivery this evening, putti g away everything.

I got my 3 done yesterday. I was particularly pleased with the cutlery drawer, as I’d been putting it off, but in the end was quite quick.

Today I will aim:
To clean out a kitchen cupboard
Visit my parents
Read a chapter in the evening

I took a nap and afterwards drove to pick up five different items from the local Buy Nothing group. Two of them are plants that I will need to plant tomorrow. That will delay book planning, but I can let the plants wither away in the sun.

I also accepted a big Safeway delivery and put away various purchases.

Tomorrow:

1) zoom meeting with my CPA and doing whatever homework he assigns to me. Hopefully, nothing, as I handed over all I had and prepared a comprehensive spreadsheet.

2) find out from Gemini if I need to go to the garden supply store to get things required to plant my new bulbs and herbs. Plant them. That will be a big project for tomorrow.

3) make turkey and white bean soup.

Thanks Tart Cherry!

I did achieve two of my aims, I cleaned out the cupboard which took longer than I anticipated
as it’s a double cupboard so I did one half then visited my parents and then another half when I came home.

I did not read however, just not enough time sitting down today. I’ll forward that to tomorrow.

Read a chapter.
Go for a run.
Get my husband’s prescription.
Thanks for this!

It is working for me. Public accountability is working — this evening, I considered postponing my third goal of making soup till tomorrow and instead walk to the local Vietnamese eatery, order pho there and sit and read. But I wanted to post an update, checking off all three aims, so I started making soup. I am glad I did, as I now have enough for several days, if not a week.

Met with the CPA on zoom. Learned how much I owe in taxes. Placed an order to sell enough money market mutual funds to meet the tax obligations. The order will be executed tomorrow and the proceeds from sale will be available on Thursday. Then I will transfer them to the bank account I will use on April 15 to pay the IRS and the FTB (California).

Replanted everything. Didn't need to go to the garden supply store as I had enough potting soil on hand. But now I will need to buy more as I used up almost all.

Tomorrow:

- create a list of my doctors for my SSDI attorney and have a call with his assistant

- read the books that are due back at the library on Thursday

- create a Google sheet for the books I borrow from the library

I achieved all my aims today- I was accompanying my mum to an appointment so I used my waiting room time alone to get some reading done, perfect!

It’s been a full on day with my parents so I’m tired tonight, my thoughts are jostling again, but I’ve narrowed down to my three for tomorrow.

Clean the kitchen sink and drainer
Get some ironing done
Clean up an item of furniture ready for donation

Created a list of doctors. The assistant to my SSDI attorney praised me for giving her a very detailed, comprehensive, conveniently organized spreadsheet. We talked about everything, I sent her all the missing info, and she submitted the application. That is just the first stage. Getting all the medical records will be next.

I have started a spreadsheet for the books I borrow from the library. I am not done with it, though. It is WIP.

I did finish all the books that are due back at the library tomorrow. But I have not recorded notes about the books in my spreadsheet yet.

As an additional completed todo, I submitted out-of-network bills to my insurance, all of them. I have no more backlog. The insurance has cool AI that parses the bills, and all I need to do is to review line-by-line for correctness and supply the tax id of each out-of-network provider. So far, their AI has parsed each bill correctly.

Tomorrow:

- write notes about the books I will be returning to the library. Return the books to the library

- therapy session

- morning telehealth session with my RD.

Yesterday was a slower day, but IIRC i exercised, i started assembling my 2nd bookshelf, and i took my ozempic and paid close attention to my blood sugar and eating. So i did get a good morning reading today.

Today i exercised, so far am eating lightly (week 3, first shot of increase to .5), took my pee med (ugh! THEN took my blood pressure, oopsie! It was kind of low), and am a good halfway thru assembly. It would be good to take a shower and take down some garbage/boxes, but we will see. Laundry tomorrow would be amazing, if not miraculous.
