He came to visit for Saturday and Sunday. We always go out to eat Saturday. He’s a heavy smoker- like any chance he can get. Friday, we had looked over the menu of this upscale steak house- which included the prices. We decided what we wanted. The next day- Saturday- we went to the restaurant and each ordered steaks and potato and asparagus and a drink. His steak wasn’t cooked right! (According to him.). Mine was delicious! My loaded baked potato was divine. His mashed potatoes weren’t enough! We got a puffed pastry hot fudge Sunday and split it. He didn’t like the pastry part! He paid the bill and said “For $140 my steak should’ve melted in my mouth!” Well I had suggested we split the ribeye, but he said it was too expensive. So, he declared “I’m never eating here again!” That’s the fifth restaurant he’s done that to!

We got back to my place and the place he likes to go for breakfast was closed Sunday for Father’s Day. He got mad and said “I’m going home….”- he lives two hours away- “where I can smoke!” So he chose smoking over just going somewhere else for breakfast! What’s more, he chose smoking over me!

Is this behavior familiar to anyone here? I blocked him. Don’t need the negativity!

Why can’t he smoke outside and then come back in? He doesn’t need to drive two hours to have a cigarette. Is he smoking cigarettes?

Or is he smoking weed or other drugs? He’s maybe irritated and hates everything because he’s withdrawing from getting high. So it’s not like he chose drug over you. It’s just that he can’t be sober for longer than whatever time he can handle. He is sick.

I am familiar with people like that. Had a relationship with alcoholic. Awful memory. And had other experiences with addicts. Unless they seek treatment nothing will change.

There is no smoking on my complex’s property. So inside, balconies, in cars, in the parking lot…. You get the point. I could get evicted for breaking the rules. Yes they’re tobacco cigarettes- menthol. I realize nothing will change. He doesn’t want to change. I can’t deal with an addict. I grew up with an alcoholic dad - he and my mom smoked but they owned their houses.
