Hi all. Currently dealing with not only a recent PTSD diagnosis from emotional abuse I endured from an ex-friend, but their persistent efforts to paint me as a liar for the last 9 months. How do you deal with both the pain of abuse, manipulation and the PTSD that comes with that, while having your reality constantly invalidated? Luckily, I've only lost one friend over her attempts to pain me as such, but it feels like it is taking me five steps back in my healing process being constantly gaslit about what I experienced. It's more than invalidating, it makes me feel crazy, it makes me feel like I can't trust myself. Abusers do be doing this so was wondering if any of you had or are having a similar experience and how you deal.

Sorry you are going through this. She is gaslighting you.

You need to get her out of your orbit so you can heal.

Protect yourself. You matter!

I hate it when abusers deny what they did. My mom does the same thing. Sorry that's happening to you.

Abusers will generally not admit to the abuse, from my experience. They might say any instance of hurting you was an accident, but claim everything they did was out of love/because they cared (my experience).

You can't believe it. Intent doesn't matter, the effect was that they hurt you whether they admit it or even know it or not. You leave, and you find people that reassure you it was abuse. The more you've been gaslit, the more important reassurance and validation that you're not crazy, stupid, evil, manipulative, or whatever else might be going through your head you will want.

I just left an abusive relationship. My treatment team was more supportive than they've ever been and they told me to call ANY time I was doubting myself. I don't have a lot of other people right now, so I had to lean hard into that. I swear some days I called every half hour. It wasn't much, but it was so important for me to hear "you're not a monster" and "you're not insane" so frequently at first.
